You can apply for courses taught in Swedish on Antagning.se, and for courses taught in English on Universityadmissions.se. The entire process is managed electronically, making the process fast and easy.

Just like Studera.nu, both Antagning.se and Universityadmissions.se are managed by the Swedish Council for Higher Education - Universitets- och högskolerådet (UHR) - a government authority. The admissions process is a coordinated process between UHR and Sweden's universities and university colleges.

Which website to apply on

If you're reading Studera.nu in English, it's possible you haven't yet achieved the level of Swedish required to study courses and programmes offered in that language. The following is a guide to the two application websites.

Antagning.se

  • All information is in Swedish
  • The entire catalogue of courses taught in Swedish can be found here
  • A limited number of courses taught in English are available for application
  • If you have a Swedish personal identity number number, in most cases your grades and results will be automatically reported on Antagning.se and available for you to see. Det här kan du behöva ladda upp
  • This website is mainly for students who meet the Swedish language requirement and wish to study courses and programmes taught in Swedish

Universityadmissions.se

  • All information is in English
  • The entire catalogue of courses taught in English is available here
  • None of the courses taught in Swedish can be found here
  • If you have qualifications from previous studies in Sweden, you can only see them if you have a Swedish personal ID and created your account based on it.
  • This website is mainly for international students interested in studying in Sweden, though students living in Sweden who are interested in studying in English - and in admissions information in English - are more than welcome to visit the website and apply

If you create an account, it will be available on both Antagning.se and Universityadmissions.se. Please note that your correspondence language is based on which website you used to create your account. You can always change that in your application profile.

Key dates for application

What dates to keep in mind when applying can be a bit complicated as there are different application rounds for students in Sweden, and for international students. Here's an explanation of how it works.

First and second admissions rounds

The autumn and spring semesters have both a first and a second admissions round. The first round has earlier application deadlines. These first rounds are mainly for applicants from other countries who need more time to apply for residence permits and arrange to travel to Sweden. You are more than welcome to apply to the first, earlier round - the entire catalogue of courses and programmes taught in English is available in this round.

In general, the dates look like this:

First application round for autumn semester (all courses taught in English)

  • Mid-October: courses become available for application
  • Mid-January: Application deadline
  • Beginning of February: Last day to complete application with documentation and application fee (if required)
  • April: Notification of Selection Results

Second application round for autumn semester (all courses taught in Swedish, limited courses in English)

  • Mid-March: courses become available for application
  • Mid-April: Application deadline
  • Beginning of May: Last day to document fee exempt status or to pay the application fee.
  • Mid-June: Last day to complete application with documentation
  • July: Notification of Selection Results and deadline to reply to your admissions offer

First application round for spring semester (all courses taught in English)

  • June: courses become available for application
  • Mid-August: Application deadline
  • Beginning of September: Last day to complete application with documentation and application fee (if required)
  • October/November: Notification of Selection Results

Second application round for spring semester (all courses taught in Swedish, limited courses in English)

  • September: courses become available for application
  • Mid-October: Application deadline
  • Beginning of November: Last day to document fee exempt status or to pay the application fee.
  • Beginning of December: Last day to complete application with documentation.
  • December: Notification of Selection Results and deadline to reply to your admissions offer

Please note that some universities may have their own application dates that should be followed. It's important to check their websites for more specific information about the courses you're interested in and special instructions.

The application process

The following is a summary of the application process for universities in Sweden.

Create an account

The account you create at Antagning.se or Universityadmissions.se will give you access to your application. Everything in the application process can be accomplished electronically.

Search for courses and programmes

Use the search feature to find courses that interest you. You can do a broad search, or use the filter options to find specific types of courses and programmes.

Rank your choices

Ranking your selected courses and programmes is very important as it will play an important role after selection. Take time with your ranking and be sure the courses and programmes you most want to study are ranked first. After you've been offered places in the maximum number of programmes and credits, your lower ranked choices will be deleted.

Complete your application

If you've studied in a foreign country, you'll have to complete your application with documents of your previous studies. This is best accomplished by using the document uploading function. It's important that you send in the right documents in the right way - be sure to find out more at Universityadmissions.se.

Making changes to your application

You can change your application up to the application deadline. After that, any new courses you add to your application will be considered late applications. You won't be able to change the ranking of your courses after the deadline.

Late applications

Your application will also be considered late if you don't submit your application and documentation by the deadlines. It's possible to still be awarded a place, but it's up to the individual university and depends on whether there are places available after selection. Some courses and programmes may be available for late application.

Notification of Selection Results

Your notification is your acceptance letter and will tell you what courses you've been offered a place on. This notification is available as a PDF-document on Antagning.se and Universityadmissions.se.

You may be placed on reserve (waiting list) for a course or programme. This means that you may be offered a place later, if spaces are available after all the accepted students have replied to their admission offer.

Replying to your offer for second round applications

If you've applied in the second round, it's important that you reply to any offer of admission in order to keep your place. Be sure to do this before the reply deadline. Applicants to the first round do not have to reply to their offer.

For specific information and instructions, be sure to visit Antagning.se and Universityadmissions.se.

Some universities have their own admissions process

If a university has separate admission, this means you can't apply at Antagning.se or Universityadmissions.se. You can find instructions on how to apply on the website of the university you're interested in.
